I love doing first birthday sessions. Watching all of the newborn babies I photographed grow during their first year.

During our first birthday sessions we do some traditional pictures first before we get to the cake!

I love cake shots! She picked up the whole cake and ran with it! It was the BEST! Not all little ones want to eat the cake and it’s ok. Some just stick their hands in the cake and play and they make beautiful photos.

Zoey loved the cake. She ate a good chunk of the cake. We put chocolate sauce on the top and then she really loved it.

Little bit of bubble blowing always makes the best smiles! Daddy blew lots of bubbles and it made for perfect pictures! This is before she devoured the cake and got all messy.

Aren’t her pink overalls the best!? MJ does provide the cake and decor for the cake smash sessions. You just need to provide your vision during our consultation and I will do the rest for you!

Your baby’s six-month milestone is here, and it’s time for their next photo shoot! While the newborn days may be long gone, your little one is still growing and changing at a fast rate.

Here’s what you can expect during their six-month photo session:

1. Sitting Up: By six months, most babies can sit up unsupported a little bit. This means that your little one can pose without any propping or holding, making for some cute photos.

2. Smiling and Laughing: Your little one’s personality is starting to shine through, and they’ll likely be smiling and giggling throughout the shoot. Be prepared to capture those sweet moments on camera!

3. Interaction: At this age, your baby is becoming more aware of their surroundings and may even be reaching out to touch and explore objects around them. This interaction can make for some great photo opportunities.

4. Favorite Toys: Your baby probably has a few favorite toys by now, and incorporating these into the shoot can be a fun way to capture their current interests.

I love this golden image of her with the flowers. January can be pretty in Texas!

She wanted a mixture of indoor maternity portraits and outdoor family portraits for maternity. We started in studio after hair and makeup and then dad and big brother met us at the outdoor location.

Look how adorable he is! He is going to be the best big brother! Soon there will be 2 little ones. I know big brother is excited.

It has rained a lot in Houston, so the creek was nice and full for her session! I love the organic feel of this session.

I love to capture mom and dad alone for maternity portraits! It’s such a special memory to capture. Soon there will be four of them! It’s coming soon.

Houston bluebonnet photographer – MJ’s Photography

MJ’s Photography is a Houston bluebonnet photographer that captures your family with the bluebonnets in the most spectacular way.

Bluebonnets are our state flower and they are so beautiful! I love capturing these wildflowers every year. The blues and the reds look amazing in photographs.

Before we get into all of the images of these gorgeous flowers. Do you know the story behind them?

Here are 10 fun facts about the Bluebonnets!

They became the state flower in 1901
There are 6 different types of Bluebonnets
It is NOT illegal to pick bluebonnets, but it is discouraged
“It’s not only the state flower but also a kind of floral trademark almost as well known to outsiders as cowboy boots and the Stetson hat… The bluebonnet is to Texas what the shamrock is to Ireland, the cherry blossom to Japan, the lily to France, the rose to England and the tulip to Holland.”
In 1965 Lady Bird Johnson’s efforts at highway beautification in the United States extending to her encouraging the planting of native plants along Texas highways after she left the White House.
For more than 60 years, TxDOT has delayed all mowing, unless essential for safety, until bluebonnet season is over. (This allows the flowers to drop the seeds)
Through the TxDOT’s wildflower program, the department buys and sows about 30,000 pounds of wildflower seed each year
Known Bluebonnet history dates back to Pre-Columbian Native American societies.
They are unpredictable. There’s an approximate two- to four-week window every March and April for catching sight of these wildflowers. Just how long they last and how spectacular their blooms become depends on the preceding winter’s rain and cold.
They are ONLY native to Texas

Taking portraits in the bluebonnets becomes a yearly tradition for most Texas families and rightly so, they are breathtaking. Have you had your portraits done in these gorgeous wildflowers? If not, you must do it!

The Indian paintbrushes (red flowers) typically grow along with the bluebonnets and give these amazing contrast of colors together. Once you walk out towards the field, this amazing smell hits you and it is truly something to experience.

My girls love their pictures out in the Houston bluebonnets! They want to stay out there and smell the flowers! Look at how cute they were.

I have private access to a personal field of these gorgeous flowers! No trying to navigate your children on the dangerous highway and you do not have to worry about another family or photographer getting in your way. It is a wonderful thing to experience…being in this giant field with just your family.
