When should I book my newborn session?
How old should my baby be for their newborn session?

What is the latest age for newborn pictures?

*When should you book your newborn session? Every photographer is different for this, but ideally you should book during your first or second trimester. This makes sure the photographer has your due date available! Most photographers only book a certain amount of newborns a month, make sure you are in there!

*What age should your baby be for their newborn session? Newborns should be between age 5-14 days old for their newborn session. Why? Because this is the time frame where they are the most sleepy and posable. They are still used to being inside your stomach, so they fold up really well. After two weeks, most babies start being alert and having more wake times

*Can I bring my other kids and do family images as well? Every photographer is different, so make sure you ask this question. For me, the price is exactly the same whether you photograph just your newborn or if you include your whole family. I even provide hair and makeup for mom at no additional cost.

*Do you have a studio or shoot in the clients home? I have an in home studio where I shoot all of my newborn sessions. I do travel to clients home upon request for an additional travel fee. Why? It takes over an hour just to load the car with all of the equipment and props! Whew!

*Do you provide all of the outfits and props or do I need to bring them? I provide all of the newborn props for my sessions. I have bonnets for boys and girls, rompers, outfits, bows, crates, bowls, wreaths, tiny baby beds, and more! I even have the gowns and dresses for momma and sister!

*Are you trained on photographing newborns? Are you new? This is a good question to ask! If you have a low budget, you’ll have to use someone that is just starting out. But you want to make sure that they know how to handle newborn babies! You do not want to just hand your precious newborn over to anyone. I am not new, I have been photographing newborns since 2015. I am trained by other photographers to pose and handle newborns in a safe way.

Take this pose for example. If a new photographer saw this, they would think the baby is sitting up unsupported. That is not the case. The baby is in a little hole in the rug and the baby has a little neck brace support under the wrap. Additionally by hand is right outside the frame just in case he were to startle. This is safe if shot properly, but can be VERY unsafe if not done correctly.

*How long does a newborn session typically last? My sessions average around 2.5-3 hours long. This includes family and sibling portraits. I do not time my sessions. Meaning, if your little one takes longer (due to feeding or needing additional time being settled) then we will simply take longer. I will never cut your session time off.

*What if my baby needs to nurse or feed during the session? I can guarantee you that they will! Most babies need to break the session up and nurse or feed for a bit. That is totally fine. If someone tries to push through your newborn session and not feed your baby, they are more worried about their time and not your baby. Do not let that happen! Your baby calls the cues.

*Do you have a time limit on your sessions? This is a great question to ask your photographer. Most newborns take around 2.5-3 hours long, but some of mine have taken up to 5 hours! On the other hand I have had some done in just an hour. I do not time my sessions because I do not know how your baby will be during the session. I do not want you or your little one stressed out. Make sure you ask your photographer this! What happens if my baby cries and we cannot get the shots within your time frame? They need to have a back up plan for you.

*What is the latest age for newborn pictures? I have photographed newborns up to 3 months old. This is not ideal, but it is possible. A photographer should never turn you away because your baby is to old. The session will last a lot longer, simply because it is harder to get them asleep between each pose. But it is not impossible!

Photographing twins is such a blessing. I’ve always been fascinated with twins! Getting to see and hold two babies is such an amazing experience.

I told mom that there is always one that likes to be a little harder than the other. She said she knew which one that would be. I figured it out pretty quickly! Let’s see if you can see which one it is.

Introducing Miss. Spencer(on top) and Miss. Emerson(on bottom). Aren’t they gorgeous? Spencer was born first and is a little bit smaller than Emerson.

Here is Emerson. She is twin B. She didn’t even open her eyes during the entire session. Until family photos…that is a story that dad will continue to tell I believe lol!

Miss Spencer is twin A. She has quite the personality for only being a couple weeks old! Just look at that face. I can’t even handle her!

I love this pose. All cuddled up to each other. I love Spencer’s foot just hanging out.

Oh the potato sack pose. My favorite. I just love them sitting up next to each other. Here are their single shots as well!

Mommy brought in the sweetest wraps with scriptures. Added in a Lucky Crickets headband and it was perfect!

This bucket pose is a favorite! What other time in your baby’s lives can they BOTH fit into a tiny bucket? Only this time!

Now on to Avery’s newborn portraits! Miss Avery decided to come early. She made her grand arrival at just 3lb! After some NICU stay, we finally got to schedule her newborn session. I was very excited to finally get to meet her.

She definitely makes the quote “Though she be small, she is mighty,” true. She took a little persuading, but we got an amazing gallery of her. With lots of patience and extra cuddles, her gallery was very full!

She was so tiny at her newborn session! She was around 5 pounds. Look how beautiful she looks in neutrals.

Birdie was such a delight to photograph. She was just 9 days old when she came into my studio. Mommy gave me free reign with her setups and I loved every bit of it!

My favorite prop to use is my bucket. I love seeing their sweet faces poking out of the top and showing their size perfectly. In a couple short months, they will no longer fit into this little bucket.

This tiny little bed is so perfect.

Katy Texas Newborn Pictures – Matthew – MJ’s Photography

Sweet Matthew’s family drove a little over an hour for his newborn pictures. I’m always honored when I am chosen to capture a little one’s very first portraits, but when they travel to me it makes it even more special.

Matthew came in at 2 weeks old with big brother Benjamin who is almost 2 years old! Both parents are also Aggies, WHOOP, so of course we hit it off right away!

Big brother went first. We all know that 2 year old’s lead the show, so I wanted to give him time and space to see which setup best suited him. He was completely against laying down lol, so we put little brother in a bucket and waited! Aren’t they adorable?

Here is their family shot! A couple plays of peek a boo and Benjamin was all smiles!

I love the singles of moms and dads. It’s such a special picture. Sweet Matthew will look back onto these when he is older, it’s an important memory to have.

We dressed little Matthew up as a bear. There is something about a newborn baby in a bear hat that makes for the cutest picture. I’m obsessed.

Look at him in this bucket! He has the most perfect profile. This is just a standard pail. Isn’t it amazing how these sweet babies can fit in there? I love using these to show their true size.

And you guessed it…another bear hat! I can’t help it. Just look at him!

I love baby smiles, don’t we all? He gave the cutest grin and I’m so glad I captured it.

Oh the details. I love capturing all of their tiny details. Perfection, he is absolute perfection. Those toes!!!!

Awake shots. I love awake shots. Some photographers will stop shooting and work to get them back asleep, I say capture those eyes! Eye contact isn’t the best at this age, but if you work hard enough, you can get it! Look at how cute he is.

When finding a Sugar Land newborn photographer you want to make sure that they will not only capture perfect images of your precious baby, but also that they are trained to pose your delicate newborn safely.

Newborn portraits are more than just wrapping your little one up and sticking them in a bucket. There is a method to the wrapping of your newborn. Their little chins should be up so that their airways are always clear. Their necks should always be supported in every pose that takes place. Safety should always be a number one priority.

Jameson’s mommy suggested gray for one of his setups. I absolutely love the way he looks in gray! He has the most perfect little lips and the cutest profile.

Of course I had to put him in gray for his potato sack pose. He slept right through this pose and loved being wrapped up snug.

I can never choose between black and white and color images and most of the time they look amazing in both!

I love when parents want to get in on the poses. Mom wore one of my couture gowns for one of her poses with Jameson and she looked AMAZING! Flawless. We got so many great images of her with her newborn baby boy.

Daddy joined in as well. They are just perfect.

Jameson is lucky enough to have a big brother! He is 7 and so very charming. He was amazing during the session and snuggled up to his little brother.

Doesn’t it just melt your heart seeing these two together. Sibling love. And those matching shirts!

We went through quite a few set ups with Mr. Jameson. He was around 2 weeks old and had the cutest, chunkiest cheeks. Look at his faces in these! I am in love.

Capturing every detail during their session is important! Those little feet will soon be walking, his little lips will soon be talking, and his little hands will soon be into everything. You have to capture every detail while they are still new.

I am swooning over Jameson in this neutral setup! Gahhh he is so handsome.

And of course he needed to pose with this bear.

When he woke up, we got some gorgeous images of him with his eyes open! Look at his eye contact!

Deer park newborn photographer – Lorelai

MJ’s photography is a Deer park newborn photographer. I have an in home studio just outside of Deer Park in Katy, Texas.

Lorelai did amazing for her newborn portrait session. We went through a lot of setups in my in home studio and she slept for most of it! Her parents decided to wait to find out if she was a girl or boy at birth. Mommy and I thought for sure she was having a sweet girl, Daddy was certain she was a boy. Mommy was right!

Her daddy is in the military, so we had to include a setup with his helmet! (dog tags blurred out for safety reasons)

Mommy loves flowers, things of the sea, and navy blue! Daddy loves navy blue and his newborn baby girl in pink!

We did a soft pink set up for daddy. She looks so sweet all curled up with her newborn toes.

Mommy works for a dive shop and everyone said she was having a little mermaid. I’m sure you can guess where I am going with this!

I love curling up these sweet newborn babies into bowls and baskets. It shows just how small they really are.

Capturing those tiny little details is so important in newborn photography. They grow up so fast and you want to remember every little thing about them. The newborn stage is over before you blink.

I love the potato sack pose for newborn sessions. It shows off their profile so well. Here is the setup with their navy blue! Look at those precious lips and eyelashes.

Most newborn photographers want their newborn babies to be asleep the whole time. I actually prefer when they are awake for a little bit. Capturing their open eyes is just another detail that you do not want to forget. Their eye color changes and so do their little expressions. Look how cute Lorelai’s newborn expressions are.

Sugarland best newborn photographer

I first met the Beck family when their oldest baby girl was just 8 months old! Mommy booked a “Mommy and Me ” portrait session and they turned out beautiful! She is now almost two and they have welcomed baby Brayden into their family! I just love getting to photograph family’s as they grow.

How perfect does he look as a squishy little bear at his newborn session? He was knocked out at this point in his newborn session, he didn’t even make a peep! I can’t even handle it! (Don’t worry this is a composite, he was very safe during the entire shot) (Hat made by Handmade by Lori)

He was born a couple days after Independence day, so a patriotic setup was necessary! Mommy came prepared with the red, white, and blue stars and baby Brayden allowed me to pose him up in just the sweetest little curl.

He was so sweet during his newborn session. I was so excited to put him into one of my new little boy outfits from Kissing Frog. It fit him perfectly! And just look at those gorgeous little eyelashes! <3
